Old Northside, Herron-Morton, Fall Creek Place
Indianapolis’s Near Northside is an epicenter for history, green spaces and active neighborhoods. Some of the area’s parks include Shawn Grove Park, Great Oak Commons Park and Herron-Morton Place Park. Residents here also love the food and beverage options. Grab a coffee and pastry from popular Provider Coffee or a chef-inspired meal from Tinker Street. Thinking about lunch? Check Tea’s Me Cafe, owned by our very own hall-of-famer Tamika Catchings, for tea and sandwiches or nearby Loco Mexican. People also love easy access to Greek’s Pizza, West Fork Whiskey and Bocca Italian. Goose the Market is a great meat shop that also features artisan goods and a full wine cellar.
View The Market ReportThe Near Northside gives locals a historic and cozy closeness with an urban feel. Here, you’ll find a blend of Victorians and Queen Annes that pay homage to our city's founding, and new construction focusing on traditional American styles. And the Old Northside and Herron-Morton are Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission protected neighborhoods.
This area is marked by active neighborhoods and neighborhood associations, each of which host monthly meetings and events throughout the year. It’s also known for its Herron-Morton Oktoberfest, which draws festival-goers from all over the metro area.
From the Civil War to the early 20th Century, the area just north of downtown Indianapolis was considered the premier place to own a home. In the late 1970s, the Old Northside neighborhood was designated a historic district. Since then, nearly all of the standing historic buildings have been renovated, making this area a premier historic spot in Indianapolis.
