Or mark your calendar for one of the area’s many annual events, like the Cottage Home Block Party, Feast of Lanterns and Woodruff Place Flea Market. The Cottage Home Community Park is a fantastic place to gather and play, too.
In 1863, a portion of the southwest corner of the now Near Eastside was platted for residential development. Just a few years later, by 1866, the Washington Street streetcar line extended its service to new customers living in the area. The area saw rapid growth in the early 1900s, then experienced a decline in population toward the end of the century. In recent years, the Near Eastside has been the subject of revitalization projects, including the Near Eastside Quality of Life Plan, Super Bowl Legacy Projects and more.
