Broad Ripple
The longest established of Indy’s cultural districts is Broad Ripple Village, located just six miles north of downtown. Broad Ripple offers a laid-back, eclectic feel that is part urban and part suburban with close proximity to public transportation and walking and biking trails. Around the neighborhood you’ll find a variety of homes from quaint bungalows to grand tudors. On the banks of the White River sits 62-acre Broad Ripple Park, featuring wooded trails, an outdoor pool, a large dog park and a brand new family center. Though already extremely walkable, plans are in place to add a river walk and a trail extension, connecting the park to the heart of Broad Ripple Village.
View The Market ReportBroad Ripple is bursting at the seams with global eateries, indie shops and charming art galleries, all of which add to the alluring combination of character and lifestyle that make the village such a desirable location. The storied Vogue Theatre is a musical destination for both emerging and big-name acts, and art lovers appreciate the class offerings at the Indianapolis Art Center, and the ARTSPARK, a 9.5-acre sculpture garden, is a delight for all ages. Storefront Theatre of Indianapolis is a professional theatre company committed to staging the works of underrepresented playwrights, and, in addition to an intimate 50-seat theatre, the building hosts dozens of art exhibitions each year. Those looking to unleash their inner artist, albeit with an eclectic Broad Ripple twist, rave about the wearable masterpieces created at Kicasso Sneaker Art Bar.
If you’ve worked up an appetite visiting the many vintage shops and boutiques sprinkled throughout the village then you’re in the right place to grab a quick bite. You can’t go wrong with a pressed sandwich from The Cuban Sandwich Shop, one of the outstanding options at 317 Burger, or creative Indy-style pies at long-time community favorite Bazbeaux Pizza. Slow down with elevated comfort food on the riverside deck at Flatwater or indulge in an authentic Italian meal at Ambrosia, where the food is as classically swanky as the environment. In SoBro (South Broad Ripple), enjoy brunch at local hot spot Good Morning Mama’s or grab a counter seat at Gallery Pastry Shop to watch them make European-style pastries the traditional way.
Broad Ripple has an active village association which contributes to the strong sense of community that draws individuals to the area. There are community events year-round, including the Broad Ripple Farmers Market, the Broad Ripple Duck Race, the Broad Ripple Art Walk, the Lights up Festival and the Broad Ripple Art Fair.
